NOMARTS is a non-profit contemporary art association in Vienna. We initiate exhibitions, commissions and multi-year cultural programmes with artists and institutions across Central and Southeast Europe.

What we do

We build the structure that lets an artist's work reach a real institution, a real public and a real record.

NOMARTS is an Austrian association whose activity is not directed at profit, founded in Vienna by curator Vanja Žanko and Michael Isak and guided by an advisory board working across curating, the art market, education and architecture in Rijeka, Ljubljana, London and Melbourne. It works from Vienna, Zurich and Zagreb, project by project, without a permanent venue.

In practice that means exhibitions and commissions with partner institutions, multi-year programmes for funders who want more than a logo on a wall, and collection and cultural-programme advice for companies and foundations.

A public programme

A mentorship programme for artists at the start of an international career.

Much of what we do for the companies and families we work with stays private. This one was built to be seen: an annual programme for emerging artists from Southeast and Eastern Europe: a year of mentorship with an established artist, funded production, a two-month residency in Vienna, an institutional exhibition and a work in public space. NOMARTS conceived it and runs it for the UNIQA SEE FUTURE Foundation.

In its first year it produced Milica Živković's first institutional solo exhibition at the MuseumsQuartier Wien, and Šejla Kamerić's public light installation AWAKE, now touring.

Advisory

Collections, and cultural programmes that stand up to scrutiny.

Alongside its own programme, NOMARTS advises companies, families and foundations on building contemporary art collections and on designing and running cultural programmes, including cultural and social-impact programmes reported under a corporate ESG framework.

The UNIQA SEE FUTURE mentorship programme is what that work looks like when it is done properly: a defined purpose, institutional partners, real artistic outcomes, and a record that can be pointed at.
